The Great Wall of China is the largest man-made structure in the world. This long wall is made of stone, soil, wood. The wall is located at Shanghai Pass in China and ends at Lopnur. The wall is about 5 to 8 meters high and 6260 meters long. The purpose of building the wall was to protect the citizens of the country from external enemies and attacks. The Great Wall was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
The Great Wall of China separates Russia and China, and is located on the Chinese-Mongolian border. It will take about a month to cross the Great Wall on foot.

History Of The Great Wall of China

There is a huge history behind the construction of this Great Wall of China. Its construction has been going on for 2500 years. Its construction was not completed during the reign of any of the kings, but it was gradually elongated in the need of later kings. More than 20 ancient dynasties and state rulers are involved in this construction work. It is thought that construction of the wall first began in 200 BC. Construction of the main part of the wall began around 208 BC. It was built by Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. But little remains of this wall now remain. It is known that more than one million workers died during the construction of this wall. Due to which it is also called as the longest cemetery in the world.

Current Situation Of The Great Wall of China

Many parts of the wall have been destroyed and damaged. About 30% of it has been destroyed. However, for the restoration and protection of the Great Wall, the Chinese government has enacted the Great Wall Protection Act and set up a fund for its maintenance.

  1. MutiyanuIt is located almost away from Beijing, the capital of China. This place is especially popular for cable car, riding and hiking.
  2. Badaling: Badaling Point is a very popular place for tourists.
  3. Jiankau: This point is steep enough. Tourists are not allowed in this part.
  4. Gubeiko: This part, like Jiankaur, has been identified as a dangerous point. Surrounded by jungles and tourists are not allowed to travel yet.
  5. Huanghucheng: Some part of this part has been submerged in water. The number of tourists is less here as the transportation system from the city is not good. 
  6. Simatai: This part is famous only for enjoying the night.
  7. Shanghai Pass: This part is basically merged with the sea. The place is popular with tourists.
  8. Jinshanling: Tourists feel comfortable to travel to this point. Some parts of it can be recovered but some parts are covered with forest.
  9. Juongguan: There are special benefits of hiking here.
  10. Huangyaguan: This place holds marathon games every year.

Best Time To Visit The Great Wall Of China

The best time to visit the Great Wall of China is from March to October. In summer travel time is from 6.30 am to 7.00 pm and in winter travel is open from 7.00 am to 6 pm.

The Great Wall Of China Entry Tickets Fee

If you want to enter, you have to buy a ticket and the ticket price is CNY 45 or CNY 40. However, if you want to do cable car riding or hiking, you have to pay extra for it.
How To Go The Great Wall of China
First you have to travel to China. If you want you can go by bus or car from Beijing, the capital city of China, to see this great wall. It is also possible to go by train if you want. The Great Wall Mini Bus costs 30-35 $ per person.

Where to stay In The Great Wall of China

To stay you will find many good quality hotels near the Great Wall. The capital, Beijing, also has many good quality hotels. However, if you want to reduce the cost, it is better to book a hotel a little away from the Great Wall. There is no food hotel on the Great Wall.

  • When traveling to the Great Wall, be sure to bring an interpreter (proficient in Chinese and English) with you.
  • In summer and winter, keep your necessary clothes and comfortable shoes, power bank, mobile and other necessary things with you.
  • Avoid dangerous points and take hiking precautions.
  • You can keep some dry food and water with you.
  • It is better not to travel to the Great Wall during the holidays! Because there is a lot of crowd at this time.
