Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty is a colossal statue located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was a gift from the people of France to the United States and has become one of the most iconic symbols of American freedom and democracy. Standing at 151 feet tall, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, and has since welcomed millions of visitors from around the world. The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and was constructed with the help of Gustave Eiffel, the designer of the Eiffel Tower. The statue depicts a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, holding a torch above her head with her right hand and a tablet in her left hand, inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence.
