Christopher Columbus: A Brief Biography

Christopher Columbus

We know the identity of many famous inventors in the world. However, we do not remember much of the people who are addicted to different inventions. However, we all remember Christopher Columbus. Hundreds of years ago we were forced to remember Columbus, intoxicated by the discovery of new places, his discovery made him immortal. Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. It is estimated that Columbus was born sometime between August and October 1451.

The first half of life
Christopher Columbus's father was a weaver. He had a cloth business. From that source, Columbus came to know about the excellent clothes, spices and endless wealth of the Eastern countries. Ever since he was a child, he used to dream that when he grows up, he will sail to India. The ship will be loaded with diamonds, gems and pearls. Columbus was a hardworking, persevering man. However, his fortunes were far from favorable. So Columbus lived with great difficulty. Columbus' brother then lived in Lisbon. After receiving a call from his brother, Columbus moved to Lisbon and settled down. Within a few days, a small task was started. He used to go to church occasionally in his spare time.

Marriage
One day he met a young woman named Felipa Moyes de Perestrollo. Felipe's father, Bartholomew, was a high-ranking officer in Emperor Henry's navy. This identity is an important event in the life of Columbus. The introductory episode turned into a short-lived affair. Then marriage. After the marriage, Columbus stayed at his father-in-law's house. He used to listen to his father-in-law all the thrilling stories of the sea expedition of his early youth. At other times, he used to sit in the library room and read various travel stories from home and abroad. One day he came across the history of Marco Polo's trip to China. While reading, the dream of going to the eastern country awoke anew in my mind. At that time people thought that gold and silver were scattered on the way to the eastern countries. He has no value to the people of that country. If desired, it can be brought by ship.

Inspiration
Christopher Columbus wrote a letter to Pagolo Toscanelli, a famous geographer of that era. Pazolo wrote in reply to Columbus' letter, "I am glad to know your wishes." I sent a design of the seaway I made. Although this design is not perfect, with the help of this design you can reach the way to the East. Where there are endless diamonds, jewels, gold-silver, gems-pearls, gems. Receiving this letter removed all doubts from Columbus's mind. Preparations for his journey began. When they heard of Columbus's will, they dismissed it as unrealistic.
Many ridiculed him. Some even mocked him. At Columbus's request, Queen Isabella of Spain promised kind consideration, but Emperor Ferdinand flatly refused. Meanwhile, Columbus' wife Felipa fell ill. Despite all the treatment, the disease gradually became more serious. Plans for a Far East expedition had to be put on hold. Felipa died a few days later. All ties of Columbus's life were severed. This time he jumped into his campaign with new enthusiasm. He went door to door to almost every rich and noble man in the country. I want a ship, I want a sailor, I want money. Columbus demanded that the country be discovered, that he should become viceroy of that country and pay a portion of the revenue.

Meet Father Perez
Initially, one or two people agreed, but after hearing Columbus' demand, everyone rejected his offer. One day, Father Perez met Columbus. Father Perez was a close friend of the royal family, and Queen Isabella held him in high esteem. Father himself told Queen Isabella of Columbus's wishes. Asked if he could be helped in any way. The queen could not refuse the father's request. In addition to Father Perez, a few other well-wishers came forward in support of Columbus. The emperor accepted all of Columbus' requests. The agreement between them was signed on April 17, 1492. Columbus will be given the rule of the new country and one-tenth of the acquired wealth will be paid. Columbus received money from the emperor and built three ships. Largest 100 ton Santamaria, Pinta 50 ton, Nina 40 tons. No interruptions were observed during shipbuilding. The problem arose during the collection of sailors. The Pinjan brothers came forward with the help of Columbus. A total of 87 sailors were found with the efforts of some other eminent persons. Finally, on August 3, 1492, Columbus sailed with his three ships to unknown seas.

The journey began
Most of those present at the port that day thought that no one would ever return from that unknown land. Columbus floated away. Just water and water all around. Day after day passes. Nowhere to be seen on the ground, the sailors became impatient. Columbus comforts and encourages everyone. But in the end, the sailors could not bear it anymore. Everyone revolts together, the ship must be taken back. Columbus saw a broken tree branch. Green leaves. It is not difficult to guess that they have come close to the ground. Just pray one day to the sailors. The day was October 12. A sailor by the name of Rodaripo first saw landmarks. Everyone was overjoyed.

Salvador
The next day, Christopher Columbus landed on an unknown island in the Bahamas. Later, He named the island San Salvador. This day is still celebrated in North and South America as Columbus Day. Columbus thought he had reached Asia by sea. Where there is endless gold scattering. But where are the resources? Day after day, no trace of wealth was found. Columbus went to Cuba and the Spanish island. He decided to return to Spain after settling down here. Then bring a large number of people to search for wealth. He built a temporary dormitory in Hispaniola. Arranging for the stay of 42 sailors there, he left for his homeland. He took some indigenous people with him as proof of his arrival on the new island. Returning empty-handed, Columbus received unprecedented respect in the country. In his honor the king and queen organized a great feast. Pope Columbus himself blessed and proclaimed, All newly discovered countries will include Spain. Emperor Ferdinand organized a new expedition.

The second sea expedition

He went there and saw that none of his companions were alive. Some people have died due to unhealthy environment. All the rest died at the hands of the local tribals. During this second expedition, Columbus searched extensively but found no trace of the treasure. Only discovered some new islands. Unable to find any money, he loaded the ship and sent the natives as slaves to Spain. Even then, the slave trade did not become widespread in Europe. Many could not sincerely support Columbus's work. Moreover, a large part of the indigenous people died in a short time after moving to a new environment.
Isabella could not wholeheartedly support this behavior of Columbus. The news did not delay Columbus. He did not delay just a moment. Two and a half years later, on June 11, 1496, he returned to Spain. But for the first time this time he did not get any reception. But the invincible morale of Columbus. Columbus appealed for a new expedition. Although at first hesitant, the emperor finally agreed. On May 30, 1498, Columbus began his expedition for the third time. This time his partner is his son and brother.

The days of good fortune are over
The fortunate days of Columbus's life were slowly coming to an end. The local people of Hispaniola revolted against the oppression of the Europeans. Mentally disturbed, Columbus suppressed the rebellion with a hard hand like an oppressive ruler. Hundreds of people were brutally killed. Columbus's associates also became angry at his work. The emperor was accused of trying to establish an independent state. He sent a courtier named Francisco da Bobdilla with a troop to investigate Columbus. After several days of searching, no charges were brought against Columbus, but no charges were brought against him.

Because, instead of discovering a rich country, Columbus discovered a poor country. For which the emperor wasted a huge amount of money. Columbus' brother and son were first arrested on the charge. Then to Columbus. Columbus was chained and brought to Spain. He was kept in solitary confinement. From there Columbus wrote a letter to Queen Isabella. Queen Isabella was kind. Moreover, he always had sympathy for Columbus. After reading his letter, he ordered forgiveness. He set foot in fifty years. He did not have much strength in his body but with the indomitable courage of his mind he applied for the voyage for the fourth time. The emperor consented, imposing a ban on entry only to Hispaniola.
