History Of Hanami

The Japanese have been celebrating Hanami with this flower for about 1300 years. The people of that time believed that the position of God was inside the plants. And from that belief they worshiped the tree and kept their vows to the cherry tree. 

It is said that in 1720, a Japanese man named Takugaya Yoshimune sat down under a flowering cherry tree in Asukayama Park and drank Osaka (Japanese wine). A week-long official holiday is observed throughout Japan at this time to enjoy the festival. This week-long Sakura festival is a special occasion for leisure celebrations and entertainment for busy Japanese. The busy Japanese go on vacation with family and friends centering on this festival.
