Easter Island, The mysterious island of giant statues in the ocean

Easter Island's Giant Statue

There are many mysterious places in the world that no one has ever set foot in or whose greatness is still not well understood. Today the story of such a place will be told. It is a place where some of the most modern sculptures made nearly a thousand years ago can be found, proving that the place was rich in science and intelligence thousands of years ago. But the funny thing is that not much is known about them.

The name of this mysterious place is Easter Island. The island is located 200 miles west of Chile. Easter Island is a small island near the Pacific Ocean. When we hear the name Easter, the first thing that comes to our mind is Easter Sunday. In fact, the island is connected to Easter Sunday.

It is said that the day the island was first discovered in 1722 was Easter Sunday, hence the name Easter Island. In the local language, the island is called Rapa Nui or Big King. In 1995, UNESCO inscribed the island on the World Heritage List. Moreover, the history of the discovery of this mysterious island is also fascinating.
Much of the island's discovery is unintentional. The Dutch inventor Jacob Rugben was tasked with finding the Terra Australia's to facilitate trade routes. But the island was discovered because the path was wrong. What is it about this island that sets it apart from all other places? Think about how many statues weighing 20 tons have been brought to a place of about 18 km without the help of any crane or machinery! Yes, that's right you can now become known as a Lord of the Rings. There are some statues on Easter Island.

History of Easter Island Statues

It is thought to have been built between 1250 and 1500. These statues are known as Moai. The local word moai means ‘for its existence’. The mounds are made of volcanic ash or tuff, basalt, red rock, scoria, trachite, and other rocks. The largest statue is 33 feet high and weighs about 82 tons!
The location of the statues is quite mysterious, as there are no complete statues on the ground. Only the head of the idol is on the ground. The rest of the statue is under the ground. Until 1914, statues were thought to be based on headless bodies.

However, in 1914, the gigantic remains of the statues were discovered underground. About six such statues have been found across Easter Island, although there are now about 384 statues. Each statue, about 20 feet high, weighs about 20 tons. The idols have been placed facing the country.

Mystery of Easter Island Statues

Supposedly, they thought they had no other people on earth outside of the island. So these statues were set up to protect their island. The statues are scattered all over the area. So who spread these huge statues all over the area or how such huge statues were moved from one place to another or who made these statues or how they came to know this construction art is still unknown today.

The statues were still there when the island was first discovered, and the islanders still know nothing about it. However, the Moayids are arranged in such a way that the sun shines on the Moayids on these two days, 22 September and 20 March. Note that the length of day and night on Earth is the same on September 22 and March 20. From this it is understood that they were modern enough in astronomy.
The island currently has some strict rules for tourists. In 2008, a tourist stole a Moai's ear and was fined 16,000. So when you go to Easter Island, you have to take care of the resources there so that there is no damage to these Moai.
