The journey to the museum began with the hand of physicist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum is based on his collection. He donated more than 61,000 items on his personal initiative. His collection included about 40,000 published books, 6,000 notes (handwritten books), 36 different types of plants and various types of paintings. 

The museum expanded enormously in the 19th century, with the addition of the Rosetta Stone, Twenty-one classical sculptures and non-sculptures in Perth dedicated to the two and a half thousand year old goddess Athena. The King's Library was added here by George IV. The history of this museum is very extensive. This ancient museum of the world has evolved through various collaborations and expansions over the ages. Although some books, documents, manuscripts and various natural specimens started their journey, at present the collection of this museum has more than 6 million objects. It is one of the few major museums in the world.
